Among the many bacteria and pathogens floating around the skin wanting to infect us, the skin helps keep them off by maintaining a warm temperature that kills them and secreting some oils that kill certain pathogens. The skin is like the body's armor. Any cut or wound can open you up to infection. Skin however, is the largest organ in the body. The skin also alerts the immune system to the presence of harmful organisms. The outermost layer of the skin is called the epidermis. It acts as a physical barrier which i mentioned before, keeps out bacteria and harmful substances. The inner layer of the skin is called dermis. Its contains several different cells that protect you from disease. The skin also contains hair which traps bacterias trying to get into the body.
